Getting to your old e-mails

I've been sending emails for a long time -- I even created a primitive email system for domestic and international use inside the multi-national company where I was IT Director in the 1970s. We had interactive terminals in all our locations so my system could deliver messages within seconds, which was much better than the multi-hour timeframe when using the company's telex-based system

Sayonara e-mail

So today I decided that it was time to finally give both Outlook and Exchange a rest. I grouped my email messages in Outlook by date, held the shift key and pressed delete. I could hear my processor and drive crunching as Outlook was trying to delete 465,000-plus messages from as far back as 2005. Now let me tell you this, there have been many times where I needed to use the built-in (and brutally slow) search feature within Outlook to find specific emails.  I am sure you have done this yourself on many occasions.

The Power of the Archive

Here is an interesting situation that was quickly resolved using an email archiving system. For those organizations – large and small – without such a system in place, you should think twice about the ancillary benefits email archiving provides.
